Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints. Most episodes are mechanical in nature and resolve with appropriate management.

Understanding it

What it is

Mechanical back pain often relates to muscle strain, disc issues, or joint stiffness. Serious causes are less common but should be considered in specific circumstances.

Common symptoms

When to see a specialist

If symptoms persist despite initial rest and simple measures, are severe, or are affecting daily activities, an assessment can help clarify diagnosis and treatment options. Bring any previous imaging or notes to your consultation.

Treatment considerations

Most acute episodes settle with a short period of activity modification, analgesics, and progressive return to normal activities. Structured physiotherapy is helpful for recurrent episodes. Imaging is not required for most cases in the absence of red-flag features.

⚠ When further assessment is important

Contact us if you experience severe pain, sudden loss of function, fever, unexplained weight loss, or any concerning new symptom. Not every condition requires surgery — treatment is decided together after clinical examination and imaging review.
