A Baker's cyst is a fluid-filled swelling behind the knee, usually secondary to an underlying knee condition such as arthritis or meniscus tear.
The cyst forms when excess fluid from the knee joint accumulates in a pouch behind the knee. It is a secondary condition — treating the underlying cause is usually the priority.
If symptoms persist despite initial rest and simple measures, are severe, or are affecting daily activities, an assessment can help clarify diagnosis and treatment options. Bring any previous imaging or notes to your consultation.
Treatment focuses on the underlying knee condition (arthritis, meniscus tear). Aspiration or excision of the cyst alone is rarely definitive without addressing the primary problem.
Contact us if you experience severe pain, sudden loss of function, fever, unexplained weight loss, or any concerning new symptom. Not every condition requires surgery — treatment is decided together after clinical examination and imaging review.
Bring any recent X-rays, MRI reports or medical reports. We’ll examine you, review your imaging and recommend an appropriate treatment path.
