Jumper’s Knee

Patellar tendinopathy — sometimes called jumper's knee — is chronic overload injury of the patellar tendon that connects the kneecap to the shin bone.

Understanding it

What it is

Common in athletes involved in jumping and explosive activities such as basketball, volleyball, and CrossFit. It represents a failed healing response of the tendon rather than acute inflammation.

Common symptoms

When to see a specialist

If symptoms persist despite initial rest and simple measures, are severe, or are affecting daily activities, an assessment can help clarify diagnosis and treatment options. Bring any previous imaging or notes to your consultation.

Treatment considerations

Structured eccentric loading exercises are the mainstay of treatment. Recovery is typically measured in months, not weeks. Injections and surgery are considered only in resistant cases.

⚠ When further assessment is important

Contact us if you experience severe pain, sudden loss of function, fever, unexplained weight loss, or any concerning new symptom. Not every condition requires surgery — treatment is decided together after clinical examination and imaging review.
